Brief History: Claire is the adopted daughter of Noah and Sandra Bennet. She was given to him as a baby to raise and one day give to the Company. Noah was chosen because he was fiercely loyal, and he remained that way...only not to the Company. He came to love his daughter, raising her in Odessa, Texas. The Bennets also had a son. Lyle who was a bit younger than Claire. Claire's life was mostly normal until she was around 16 years old and found out about her abilities. Not knowing what it meant or what it made her, Claire began filming herself dying and hurting herself over and over again. She eventually let a boy named Zach from Union Wells High in on this as well.
Noah knew about Claire's ability long before she did, and he tried to keep her hidden and protected, and wanted to attempt to get Claire's name off of Chandra Suresh's list. He feared she would be targeted by not only the Company but a different sort of enemy as well. Unfortunately, Claire could not seem to keep a low profile, but to be fair she didn't even know she was supposed to be trying. She rescued a man from a burning train yard, though Jackie Wilcox claimed that she had done it, getting Claire off the hook. That wasn't why she did it, but Claire appreciated it, nonetheless.
It was painted by New York artist Isaac Mendez that Claire would be attacked and killed by a strange man at her Homecoming game, and in that same city Peter Petrelli was warned by a Hiro Nakamura from five years in the future to save the cheerleader and save the world. When Noah learned of Claire's impending doom, he forbade her to go to her Homecoming dance, wanting to protect her. Claire ended up going anyway, but she was not the one attacked. Jackie had made all the papers, so the man after Claire believed Jackie Wilcox had the ability he desired. He attacked in the locker room, throwing Claire into a wall so he could finish off Jackie. As he was killing her, Claire was healing and the man, named Sylar, realized that he'd gotten the wrong one. Claire would have been dead that night if it wasn't for Peter Petrelli. Crossing paths with him changed her life forever.
Over the next days and weeks, Claire learned a lot of things about her life and herself. Her supposedly dead birth mother was alive and well, and like Claire had an ability that many people would not understand. She also learned that her father was Congressman Nathan Petrelli from New York, Peter's older brother. It seemed their paths were destined to cross that night. When the Company learned that Claire's ability had manifested, they ordered Noah to bring her in. He couldn't do it, so he staged something to make them think that a man called the Haitian with the ability to negate powers and erase memories had taken Claire.
Claire ended up in New York, but Angela Petrelli planned on sending her to France, not wanting Claire to get in the way so soon before the election. When Peter Petrelli was killed, Claire pulled the piece of glass from the back of his skull, reviving him. Her time in New York ended that night at Kirby plaza when there was a showdown between the heroes and Sylar. After defeating Sylar, Peter was going to explode from a power he'd acquired from a man named Ted. This had always been Angela's plan, but at the last minute Nathan flew Peter out of the atmosphere so that when he exploded no one would be hurt. Peter was presumed dead by most.
Claire and her family moved to Costa Verde, California, where Claire was told to keep a low profile, and no cheerleading. They were living under the last name of Butler. There she met a boy called West Rosen that could fly. West teased her about being a robot when he saw that Claire was hiding something, holding back anything interesting about herself. He watched outside of her house as she cut off her toe, curious to see if it would grow back like a lizard since that had been what they were studying in class.
West confronted her, and Claire worried that he wanted to expose her. He then showed her that he could fly. As the two got closer, West confided in her that he'd once been taken by a man with horn rimmed glasses. Claire knew immediately that it was her father and she did everything she could to make sure that they didn't cross paths. Claire wanted to keep spending time with West, so she told her father she'd joined cheerleading. There was just one problem, one of the cheerleaders, Debbie would not let her on the squad.
One night Debbie had been drinking a lot, so West and Claire had a plan. Claire pretended to talk to Debbie and all of a sudden West grabbed her and dropped her on the stands from 50 feet up, killing her. Debbie freaked out, which was just teh reaction they were going for. Claire reappeared unharmed and Debbie was known to be drinking. She was kicked off the squad, opening a place for Claire. Unfortunately their little stunt made the paper and Noah decided they'd leave Costa Verde immediately. West realized during this time that Claire's father was the man who abducted him and he believed Claire was just trying to set him up.
She tried to call him and to find him, but nothing worked. Finally on the day they were supposed to leave Claire was going to school, but she stopped and got rocks to spell out "I'm sorry" so West could see. West didn't believe her and Claire went to school where she was spoken to by Bob Bishop, pretending to be a school official. When he said her real last name, Claire ran home. Bob showed up and took her.
West had grabbed Noah to try and make him tell if Claire was in on it. Noah said Claire had never even mentioned the boy. Noah knew Bob had Claire and that he needed West's help to get her back so they took Bob's own daughter, Elle. When they traded off at the exchange point Elle blasted Claire and West. Noah shot Elle in the shoulder, and was going to shoot Bob, but Mohinder who had been working with Noah to bring down the Company was now seeing things differently and he shot Noah through the eye, killing him.
Claire was overcome with grief and horrified, especially because the last real words she said to her dad was that she hated him. When she was releasing his ashes, she noticed Elle in a car and went to confront her. Then Claire decided she was going to take them down even if it meant exposing her own abilities. When Noah showed up alive however, having made a deal with the Company, she abandoned this train of thought.
When Nathan was shot, Claire called Peter to see if she could help. It was not the Peter that she knew, but a Peter from the future, who advised Claire to stay home. She did, and she was attacked by Sylar who stole her power. She survived the attack, learning that she could never die or even feel pain anymore. She wants her revenge against Sylar and to help people now.
